Brooklyn - from book to film

The film Brooklyn premiered in Dublin last week. Starring Saoirse Ronan, Domnhall Gleeson, Jim Broadbent and Julie Walters, the film is based on Colm Toibin’s book of the same name which was published in 2009. The film tells the story of Eilis Lacey who leaves 1950s Ireland for New York. There she falls in love but later has to choose between her life in the US and her life back home, between love and duty. Directed by John Crowley, Brooklyn met with critical acclaim following showings at the Sundance, New York and Vancouver film festivals earlier this year, and Ronan has been tipped for an Oscar nomination for her performance.
