The winner of the Man Booker Prize 2012 will be announced at London’s Guildhall on Tuesday 16th October, in a ceremony covered by the BBC. The six shortlisted titles, chosen from a longlist of twelve are

Umbrella by Will Self
Narcopolis by Jeet Thayil
The bookies’ favourite to win the 2012 prize is Will Self’s Umbrella, a 400 page chapter-free novel about a woman incarcerated in a mental hospital. Second favourite is Hilary Mantel’s Bring Up the Bodies, the sequel to the 2009 Booker prize winning Wolf Hall about Thomas Cromwell, chief Minister to Henry VIII.
