Parteen Weir - part of the Shannon Hydro-Electric Scheme
Shannon Hydro-Electric Scheme and spans the Shannon at Parteen Villa. It was built to regulate the flow of the river and divert water, via an intake, into the head-race canal, which carries the water down to the power station at Ardnacrusha. The weir is clearly visible on this map, with the intake and head-race canal to its left. See photos of the Scheme here and listen to Nonie Lynch extol the virtues of the Scheme.
