Death of David Marcus, champion of new Irish writing
David Marcus, the literary editor, who died recently dedicated his life to championing the work of emerging Irish writers. He edited the immeasurably influential “New Irish Writing” pages in the Irish Press newspaper for decades and was a great mentor to an entire generation of Irish writers. John McGahern, Claire Keegan, Bernard MacLaverty, Éilís Ní Dhuibhne and Joe O’Connor were among the many writers whose early work Marcus published.
