Teen Week 2011 kicks off at deValera Library
Teen Week 2011 beagan in the deValera Public Library, Ennis, on the morning of the 28th of March. The week of events specially scheduled for second level schools was launched with a music workshop facilitated by John Lillis. John has extensive experience in studio and music project management and has very successfully delivered music workshops both nationally and internationally to several youth groups. He was ably assisted on the morning by Sam Lavery, who specialised in Rap, and Vido Sampaolo who amazed the group by teaching them the techniques of beatboxing. The workshop more than met its aims to educate, entertain and inspire young people in a musical environment where they enjoyed two and a half hours of hands-on music creation involving many different techniques. Focusing on hiphop and DJ culture, the class was introduced to current music technology and alternative ways of artistic expression. They got basic introductions to the techniques involved in dj-ing, scratching, production, sampling, rapping and beatboxing. Having confidence and respect for others were some of the underlying principles of the workshop and were seen to be subtly observed with each group successfully performing their own musical creations in front of their classmates at the end of the session.
