The Clearing of Kilranaghan Graveyard

In 1942 Clare County Council gave a grant to clear bushes in Kilranaghan Graveyard near Ruan. The graveyard – which is also known as Ranaghan, and The Coille - was the burial place for many who died during the Great Famine, as well as others. In the recording below, the late Michael and Mary Considine of Moyrhee Commons talk to Paddy Casey about the work carried out there and the re-interment of the Famine victims. Transcription of the headstones in Kilranaghan and Old Ruan Graveyards has recently been carried out and published by Frances O’Halloran and Linda Hogan.
