Maya Angelou 1928 - 2014

The death has occurred of Maya Angelou, celebrated poet, novelist and civil rights activist. Angelou is best known for her series of seven autobiographies, which focus on her childhood and early adult experiences. The first, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, charts a childhood of oppression and abuse in the American South and is considered an American classic.
