Eric Hill, creator of Spot the Dog books
(7 September 1927 – 6 June 2014)

Eric Hill, author of the multimillion-selling SPOT books for pre-school children died on the 6th of June 2014, aged 86. Designing books for his young son, Hill came up with the innovative “lift-the-flap” concept first in 1980. Where’s Spot was an overnight success and was the first in a succession of delightful tales about a mischievous yellow puppy who became known and loved all over the world.

Hill's publisher, Puffin, confirmed the news of his passing, describing him as "a master of simple design. He created one of the world's most loveable children's book characters – Spot, the charming, naughty, playful puppy, loved and appreciated across the world".
